This was originally explained in the
first post we made on the topic, when we still believed that the the invites had started. Then in May, Blizzard
changed how to opt-in, so we had to re-do the guide (the old guide can be found
here) to make SURE that no StarcraftWire member misses out on the StarCraft II beta keys from the opt-in scheme. Please note that regardless if you followed the old instructions or not, you still will have to do all the new points shown below:
1) Register on Battle.net
Got to
Battle.net, and log in with a Blizzard Account, WoW account or make a new account. Making multiple accounts will likely not work, as this is a brand new system, and Blizzard will most likely have checks for the beta opt-ins to not count people with the same name/addresses twice. If you do get chosen, and have multiple accounts, they could possibly discount you. An easy tip is "don't cheat", and it should all work out fine!
2) Authenticate your account
Just make sure your account is authenticated, through the function on Battle.net that sends you an e-mail. Not 100% sure if it matters, but it
might do!
3) Make Sure You Added a Game

This is the first important part. If you have a game added like the picture shows, just go to step 4. If not, then there are two ways to do this. Either
Merge a World of Warcraft® Account on the top of the page, or
Add a Game, marked out on the picture to the right.
Adding a game will open the page shown below, where you just enter the CD key of your game, and
Add Game. To merge a WoW account, please notice that EU accounts may not yet be available for merging yet.
If you are not able to add a game, you are
NOT going to be able to opt in for a StarCraft II beta key.
4) Download System Specs Checker

Go to
Beta Profile Settings marked on the right picture, and you will come to a page that gives you the choice of downloading a PC or Mac
Beta Opt-in Application. Choose your platform and begin download. It's just over a MB in size, so should be quick. Just note where you saved it. Downloaded, it will look like
this.
Please note that even if you have very low or high specs, this is not in itself going to stop you from getting a key. If you use more than one machine, download this application to the one you'll likely use the most for StarCraft. If you are two individuals (you and your sibling) that at the moment only have one machine, that will also be OK as long as you have separate Battle.net accounts.
Either run the application directly when downloaded, or go to where you saved the file, and run the
SystemCheck_enGB.exe file. Read the agreement, click
I Agree if you do, and a window with your hardware will come up on the screen. Press
Send to send it to your Battle.net account. As a confirmation that it was uploaded, you'll get a new browser tab/window open to the Battle.net support pages. The actual application window looks something like this:
6) Update Beta Opt-in Preferences
When the data is uploaded, go back to your Battle.net account browser window, press
Home to get to the main page and then back to
Beta Profile Settings. Instead of only a request to download the system checker, you can now see your stats online, and choose which if the Blizzard universes you'd like to opt-in for beta keys. Then click
Update Preferences.
If you want to change the PC stats you have registered, you can just go to this page and update or reset your specifications.
So this is what you need to do to get in to the StarCraft II Beta Opt-in scheme. Then all you have to do is pray you get drawn in the lottery!
