The StarcraftWire Challenge

Join the StarcraftWire Challenge!

The short of it is: make a small contribution to the community, and win prizes,
or just make one forum post, and win prizes.

We are challenging the StarCraft community as a whole to take a few minutes out of their daily SC-news surfing and do some sort of minor boon to the rest of us fans. The point isn't to ask people to break their backs, but to get LOTS of people to do a little bit each. If you have done something, or start doing it now, chances are pretty big you'll get some sort of goodie! Or you can just say that you don't want to go against the Grain to enter a lottery for more goodies!

Challenge #8: StarCraft Posters
- Until 30th of June 2009

It's very simple: Just go to this thread, and announce that you are a Challenger or part of the Grain. Winning prizes ensues!

Yes, the contest itself really is that simple. The things is of course that Challengers have a bigger chance of winning, as they get extra lottery tickets for contributions, but ff you can't be bothered to read any more, you can just go to the contest thread immediately and say "I'm a Grain" and hopefully end up with a prize of some sort in your letter box a few weeks later!

The Prize

The four prizes for this Challenge are StarCraft Comic Posters (sneak peak). All four winners will each receive a freshly printed poster!

    1st Prize: StarCraft Comic Poster
    2nd Prize: StarCraft Comic Poster
    3rd Prize: StarCraft Comic Poster
    4th Prize: StarCraft Comic Poster

General Challenge Rules

The StarcraftWire Challenge uses a "Lottery Ticket" system to determine winners. Both Grains and Challengers have a chance of getting the Grand Prize, and other prizes, but Challengers generally has a greater chance of winning than Grains. It works like this:

  • A Grain gets one Ticket, and a Challenger gets two.
  • All entries are put in a list and entries with double tickets are added once for each ticket. The entries are numbered.
  • We consult Randomizer, who gives us a list of numbers, who are declared winners.

Please note: If you have won in a previous contest, you are still free to enter new ones. Should you win, you can give the prize to a deserving friend.

In some cases a extra rules might apply:
  • Funny Game - In some cases, we apply a "Funny Game" to the contest, to liven the mood up. Good entries will give up to one extra ticket.
  • High Profile Prize - If we give away a "High Profile" prize, like a Beta Key or a BlizzCon ticket, we allow Challengers to enter up to three contributions, giving them 4 possible extra tickets.
  • Challenger Extra - If it's a low profile prize, We'll sometimes make a separate drawing before the main one, with only challengers.

We first randomly draw 1 lottery ticket from a pool of Challenger and Grain tickets for the BlizzCon 2009 entry, and then 2 more for the posters. If you entered as a Challenger, you will have a greater chance of winning either the BlizzCon ticket as well as a poster. You can only win once per Challenge and we assume you rather would have a higher prize than a lower one.

So, What's a Challenger Then?

Well, since you read this far, you might already be one! A Challenger just goes "against the Grain", and helps his fellow brothers and sisters in the community. If you've contributed in the past months, or started just now, your contributions will make you one of the Challengers! This "Challenge" does not require the contribution to be made in the past or recent, anything goes.

Here are just a few examples of what it could be, but it's not limited to these:

  • Making an update on the community StarCraft Wiki.*
  • Uploading a few Official shot to the gallery of StarcraftWire*.
  • Uploading a fan-art image to the gallery of StarcraftWire you made yourself (or a few of someone else).
  • News tipped us on important news updates.*
  • Posting a News Item on StarcraftWire.
  • Writing an Article on StarcraftWire (preview, guide, column, etc).
  • Writing a blog post in the Starcraft W!RE program.
  • Actively moderating a forum for a month.*
*Wiki updates can be anything fro ma lore entry, or updating stats on a few unit/building pages. If you use some other wiki besides Wikipedia as source, you still need to re-write the entry in your own words! If you upload a shot, you need to be the first to upload it - no duplicates. News tips must have been credited. We're not looking to add moderators at the moment.

This is all about the community and just a list of examples. If you have any other suggested contribution, just make the statement "I'm a Challenger" and link it, for Leord and the StarcraftWire staff to decide.

How do I prove I'm a Challenger?

When claiming your Challenger rights, just add a link to the source of your contribution! Simple as that.

No, there was never any signed posters in this challenge, purely for the fact that we assumed the majority of people signing would just want the beta key anyway. True enough, one winner already asked that we don't send him his poster... Sorry, we kind of saved it for the 5th Challenge, to make sure that one isn't without excitement.
