Article Supplies Food for Thought

Posted 3rd Jul 2009 07:55 PM by Deep.Thought

StarcraftWire’s newest contributor 1ThorsHammer has written an article which really supplies us with some food for thought.  He’s created a brief write-up on the mechanics Blizzard has integrated into their farms over the years and the adaptation of farms from StarCraft to StarCraft II.

Here’s a brief excerpt from the article:

The Zerg were the only ones who had supply fulfil an additional role. In fact, it was surprising how much Zerg Overlords did in comparison with the other two races. Not only were they a mobile supply, they acted as detectors and transports. When one looks at the fact that Terran supply depots do absolutely nothing except for act as farms, the amount of stuff crammed into the Overlord becomes absolutely astounding.

speaking of cheats, will we be able to take out single player cheats in the editor? i always had to create complex triggers in warcraft 3 to check if he has used “whosyourdaddy” god mode.

specifically, to prevent this i would have to make the player have a sightless unit in the dark part of the map just continually attack an enemy building that heals 5hp per second. if he used god mode, the unit would do 100x damage and kill the building, resulting in follow up defeat triggers.

hopefully it wont be that hard for me anymore.

It’s better for Thor if you comment on his article smile

As for cheating, I kind of think people wanting to cheat can bloody well do so. I mean they can when playing the campaigns, why not in custom games? They are only cheating themselves in the end…

sorry for not sticking to the subject. Anyway, playing sc bw without cheats was extreamly rewarding; i wish i never cheated my first play through, and so i wish no cheats were ever in that game. i wonder if there will be difficulty settings in sc2. i hate games that ask what difficulty you want, but then let you change it to whatever the hell you want to later. why do i work hard, level grind, etc for games i can just cheat on or set to easy? it is madness. i also hate when the difficulty setting is a continuum with infinate possibilities (oblivion IV); three difficultie settings would be fine for any game! what do you think leord?
