Beta to last three to five months, target release date in Q2

We know it, they know it, hell everyone knows how unreliable Blizzard is when it comes to time lines and release date estimates. Because of this they have severely limited the amount of deadlines and target dates they put out.

Much to my surprise they decided to give the fans their targets for the beta!

Chris Sigaty: You haven't asked this question yet, but I'll answer it ahead of time. We were targeting three to five months for the beta, we're really at a three month period of time for the beta at this point. We are still targeting the first half of this year, so with that in mind, it really shortens the window of time with our major content patch coming out pretty close to the end whether it's even worth it putting out the map editor at that point.

The other surprise is that we can no longer be sure that the map editor will be released during the beta ;(

It should be noted that they put emphasis on the 3 months part showing a surprising amount of confidence for a Blizzard release window.  Hopefully this will be true as I would love to be playing the final retail game ASAP :D

Awesome :D as long as I can play sc2 the majority of my summer holidays, I won’t complain ^^

I don’t really mind no map editor in beta, because the first couple of weeks of the release I probably won’t be playing custom games yet.

It’s fine if the beta lasts 5 months, and I’m all for the game releasing by the summer, it’s only been _ten years_ since SC1… But come on, I think they need to crack open the beta a little bit! All these ebay scams going on, just let people in legitimately…

I recently got my beta key free from a giveaway, but that was only by luck. I hunted down the key and went through about 15 scam sites before I got to a legitimate site. I filled out a short questionnaire that was free and didn’t spam my e-mail, and I got my key in 5 hours.

Support the cause of freeing up beta keys from the sellers!

If anyone was wondering, the above post is a spam post for scam beta keys. We will keep posting about any and all ways of getting legit beta keys in the StarCraft 2 beta centre.
