Blizzard Game To Ship On 2009

Posted 11th Feb 2009 11:34 PM by Medievaldragon

The net is shaking in anticipation with the news that Blizzard COO Paul Sams confirmed at the Activision Blizzard Q4 2008 Earnings Call that a major front line game will be shipped on 2009 and that Starcraft 2 beta will be announced in upcoming months. Paul Sams wouldn't say which game is shipping this year, however.

Nothing has been confirmed, but the 11th anniversary of Starcraft is very close as we approach April 1. Will beta start on cue with the anniversary? All we can do is sit and wait eagerly.

Blizzard Quote:
Also coming up in the months ahead will be the StarCraft II beta test. The beta will be played on a basic version of our new Battle.net architecture, which will give us the opportunity to test the game and the service in a live environment. Over time, we will be adding features to deliver a second generation Battle.net experience. We know that the demand for StarCraft II is very high. The original StarCraft has sold more than 11 million copies worldwide and the sequel has been named on several most-anticipated lists. We are aiming to release StarCraft II as soon as possible, but as with all previous Blizzard games; we won’t ship it until we feel it is ready.

This is of course the same confirmation we already received from Activision Blizzard, which just makes it the more sweet, to have a more recent green light on 2009 release.

“upcoming months”.....

so basically we still don’t know when beta will come and SC2 seems like the only possible game to ship this year… =(

My skin just tingles with anticipation of SC2 coming out soon. I have to say that if beta is started 1 or more minutes before midnight on March 31 JUUUUST before April 1 (April Fool’s Day) it will be like Blizzard confirmed that the little “b3t41nm4rch” thingy was true and that the beta really was going to be in March. It’s just that it will be in March just mere SECONDS before April and Starcraft’s 11th anniversery. That would be epic, would it not!? ^^

P.S. This is my first post and I signed up for Starcraft wire on Feb. 10 (GMT -6:00) at 2:48 AM in the USA. I signed up because after looking at this website so many times since last October that I finally decided sign up due to the fact on how often this site is updated with news on Starcraft 2. smile

You guys rock!!

Thank you very much for the compliment, we do indeed try to stay on top of everything in the community, and the only thing we really lack is the eSport circus. Still, if we have more eSport fan members, I'm more than happy to start catering more to that. A grand welcome to SCW, you should make a thread in teh community forum to say hi! =) On your point, I still think pretty much that the "b3t41nm4rch" is a fake. As I mentioned elsewhere, if it truly was Blizzard doing it, there would have been a lot more reports. There were not even more fake reports coming, so it was likely fake. Having said that! It's still likely to be 31st March anyway, since Blizz will wait a month after announcing beta signups until they start, so if they start the signup in the next 2 weeks, we'll likely see the beta start end of March, or 1st of April ;)
