Several major gaming sites, including Kotaku and C|net, have been asked to get Battle.net accounts and submit this info to Blizzard before 19 June. That's this Friday. Please note that despite the Kotaku & C|net links above and our unofficial confirmations, it's relatively speaking still a rumour. Even if you take this info at face value, it's only the deadline to submit info, not necessarily beta start date.
We already knew the beta would start this summer, and gathering the Battle.net accounts of major magazines and websites is something they do BEFORE the beta starts, possibly even a few weeks in advance. They might also get in before us fans, with an NDA, asking them to shut up about it.
Whether StarcraftWire has been contacted or not, we are not going to disclose. I am fairly certain all these gaming sites really were asked to keep shut about the e-mail, because that's how it normally works. The difference is that we're a fansite, and we're more interested in helping Blizzard when they ask for it. However, I am really looking forward to the next few weeks, to see what Blizzard comes up with!
The e-mail is quoted after the break. Thanks Medievaldragon for the awesome spot.

This is the e-mail quoted. Please observe that while the reports above are very credible while the poster of this e-mail is Blazur, who is known for previous hoaxes, and we can not find the original source of the e-mail. We'll make an update when it's confirmed or debunked. Also note that there is a minuscule chance Blazur would have sent this e-mail with faked sender to the major sites. However, we have talked to him after his previous funny little pranks, and he didn't seem interested in getting more flame from real SC2GDF trolls, so it's indeed very unlikely.

| Greetings from Blizzard Entertainment! We are starting to gear up for the StarCraft II Beta. If you are interested in participating, you need to have a Battle.net account, which you can create here: http://us.battle.net/?rhtml=y. Send us your Battle.net account login name and we will flag you for access to the SC2 beta when we begin admitting press. You do not need to go through the opt-in process. We do not currently have a date to announce for the start of the beta test. There will be no NDA associated with the beta so you're free to write and take screens or video as you please. We need to have your Battle.net account login name by Friday, June 19th. Thanks much! See you on Battle.net! Blizzard Entertainment PR Team |
