With the Blizzard World Wide Invitational only a few days away, Blizzard have upped a teaser on the official website with the above image. What the image means, is for as yet unclear, what it suggests a lot clearer: this WWI might have something awesome for all of us! Any idea what the above image could be from?
The image name is “Ice1.jpg”, meaning there will probably be more icy images to come.
We know that Blizzard have never made any teasers for any expansions in the past, and Wrath of the Lich King is definitely “old” enough not to warrant a teaser. Still, the colour palette matches it pretty good.
It’s not the Diablo Worldstone, as that is red, but there are red hints in the ice, looking like stone shards or runes…
Has anyone seen this design somewhere?

Update:
Maticus over at WorldofWar.net writes:
To me, that’s clearly a Lich King reference, what with the rune and all.
It’s not entirely unlike the Unholy Rune for the Death Knights, as seen below.
And could this be the Frost Rune?
Update 2:
WorldofWar.net seems to have solved the Splash Screen mystery. No Diablo 3 or StarCraft MMO hints, but rather “just” another Lich King reference.
Update 3:
Wuushu of StarCraftWire.net also add another piece to the puzzle.
I was hoping blizz would be showing those patented teaser pics of theirs leading up to the WWI. And hooray, here they are
I guess that’s almost as good as an official statement there will be an announcement.
Im looking forward to a fun 5 days worth of immense speculation ![]()
Here’s my part: the pic is the worldstone that’s shattering and ‘releasing’ hell that’s behind it (so Diablo3 ofc). Or something completely different.

I was thinking that too at first, but the more I look at it the more it looks too “blue-ish” to really fit in. Wouldn’t the Worldstone be more of a red-ish color?
Another possible hint is that the filename is called Ice and there looks to be a symbol on the middle-left side:

While it looks like all pointers in this case seem to suggest a Lich King connection I would like to add that these series usually involve multible images and we have only seen 1 thusfar. Give me more ![]()
Update:
New information seems to suggest that this is actually all about… a new Diablo game! The idea is as follows:
The source of the teaser page has the following CSS url:
http://us.media.blizzard.com/232309/master.css
The number contained therein 232309 can be translated into characters: WWI! The goodness however, doesn’t stop there. Following this path and reading the source shows us the following:
/*.tundra {background:url(_images/04.jpg) no-repeat 0 0} */
The image:
http://us.media.blizzard.com/232309/_images/04.jpg
This is a disabled rule in their css code to and image labeled 4. If we where to apply the same idea used on the previous number we would get a D. Now given the fact that it is monday today and given the fact that they are going to update this once every 24H this would enable the following to take place:
Tuesday: I
Wensday: A
Thursday: B
Friday: L
Saterday: O (the WWI kicks off)
If tomorrow yields the anticipated “I” as the theory suggests that would put quite some power in this theory

Some nice work there Freelancer.
In following with your theory, there’s another hidden image at 15.jpg (O):
http://us.media.blizzard.com/232309/_images/15.jpg
I’ve written a quick script but there doesn’t look to be any other images from 0-500 (yet) with the JPG, PNG or GIF file extensions. I’ve also checked a-z without any luck.
The second stage of the Ice image has also been released, with another visible design near the top-right.
While it could be WoW related, that first design does look a little bit like the Shael rune

It appears indeed like the Frostmourne sword used a Shael rune, and the fact that it’s in the ice is just a coincident! =)
