More details have become available about the new contest with Blizzard, to draw your own Blizzard Theme Park. As I mentioned in the original news item, it's interesting that this idea comes now, relatively shortly after we've had discussions about specifically a Blizzard theme park. It's likely that there isn't enough money yet in this to open its own independent theme park, but as some IP holders do, they license it out to other parks. What about a Blizzard-themed corner of Disneyland or some other major themepark? It would still be millions of pounds to invest in it, but at least not billions...

Blizzard Quote:
Step right up, and take a ride on Onyxia's Revenge -- a wild, whelp-filled roller coaster through the depths of the nefarious dragon's lair! Head to Koprulu Food Court and grab yourself a Zerger Burger -- then don your Horadric Poncho, and prepare to get soaked in a rain of fire on Diablo's River of Flame!

What thrills would you seek in the Blizzard Entertainment theme park of your dreams? This is your chance to show us.

We’re challenging you to design and illustrate your own Blizzard Entertainment Theme Park, including roller coasters, water rides, shows, shopping areas, food courts, game areas, patrons, and whatever fantastic attractions you desire.

Submit your original park design by March 30, 2009, and we’ll choose our favorites based on the creativity of the design, artistic technique (including the medium and style), and how your park reflects the lore and spirit of Blizzard Entertainment's games.

You can submit illustrations that look like theme-park maps, compose your park to look like a screenshot from a game, or create whatever kind of park you wish -- the only limit is your imagination. Winning entries will be featured on Blizzard Entertainment websites around the world as well as at BlizzCon 2009, being held in Anaheim, California on August 21 and 22.

The park designer who most creatively incorporates the StarCraft, Warcraft, and Diablo universes will receive a Wacom Cintiq 12WX Digitizing Tablet, a pair of StarCraft II beta keys, and more. See below for more prize details, or check out the official rules for more information.

Please note that this contest is only open to residents of the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore at the moment. Additional contests will be announced shortly!

Karune has also added a few blue posts for good measure as well:

Blizzard Quote:
Humor is always a plus - it does not have to be a 'realistic' theme park, but could be as well if you would like. It is all up to your creative minds smile

Artists will be judged by their creativeness of design, by their illustration technique, and the content of their lore.

This contest is open to Canadians. There will be versions of this contest in EU and Asia as well.

Do you want a whole theme park? or individual rides?
And if we submit a map-like plan, can we also include some extra in-depth images of individual rides?
A map-like plan similar to the ones you would get upon entering a theme park would be the most classic, but that doesn't mean you couldn't show some more unique angles of certain rides etc. There are many possibilities.

Oh, Karune, I do have a question. Will you guys accept joint participations, and will beta keys be issued for all members of a joint effort or just one?
You can definitely collaborate with others - it is one of the primary reasons too that we added 2 StarCraft II beta keys rather than one, per winning entry.

Even tho Im in Europe and it gotta be visual. I started to make an audio clip of someone walking in the themepark. By using 5.1 surround system and Binaural recordings of a themepark close to where I live I hope to have something funny made ready. I’m gonna voice some guests and workers, redo some of the theme musics from their games and try to make it more themeparkee. It be good practice for myself with 5.1 surround stuff.
