Blizzcon 2008 Coverage >> Blizzcon gameplay findings

I will be making a longer editorial write-up later tonight, but as I did spend a little while to play the new BlizzCon build of SC2, there are a few immediate updates available.
Among the more interesting is that Hydralisks have moved from Tier 2 to Tier 1, the Queen. Among other things, new doodads like forest or smoke are added that has as single use to break line of sight. The idea is to leave a section of any base where people can gather an attack out of sight, so you have to be extra aware and be aware of this. Creep Tumors are once again laid by the Queen, but the defences are still made by Drones.
The Gas Mechanic got a slight tweak. Instead of requiring manual upgrading to full speed, it automatically does it for you when the “deposit” runs out. It shuts down the gas creation for a few seconds, and the workers just stands still, waiting. As before, a small allowance is then again made available, which is extracted in normal pace until it’s out, continuing the cycle. A total gas of 2500 is standard, and you have 300 gas available in a deposit until you have to re-initiate the extractor/refinery/assimilator.
Finally, the new Nighthawk is available, and he’s quite cool. If you followed our report from earlier, you already know that the Nomad (also known as the Vulkan for a few days) is now called Nighthawk. He’s a very cool ship that has some manga inspiration in the moving parts, and is even a little bit like Protoss ships. Clearly high tech and able to assist Terrans in any order of business.
The new Nighthawk, assuming I’m looking at the right model, looks very “Arbiter-like” but I hear it has some pretty cool animations.
i dont get it, if Hydras r tier 1 then how long does it usually take to get them? i just cant mix Hydras and lings in the same tier

I prefer to think of them as Tier 1.5 since they no longer require a Lair, but (I assume) still require a Spawning Pool, to begin production.
In other words, it’s probably more like the original.
