BlizzCon Tickets On Sale May 16 for $125

Posted 5th May 2009 10:36 PM by Leord

Blizzard just announced that the tickets for the highly anticipated BlizzCon will go on sale on May 16, and with a significant increase in numbers of people as well as price for 2009.

When and How to get Tickets?
As we reported, the BlizzCon 2009 will be held on 21 and 22 of August in Anaheim, California, and Blizzard have taken measures to make sure the spectacle of last year's ticket sales will not happen again. This time, the Blizzard Store will have a queue system in case the site gets swarmed with fans. When there's no traffic, people are directly added to the store, but if there is a storm, then you're placed in a queue system with "first come first served" functionality. You can read more about it here: How to Get a BlizzCon 2009 Ticket. The actual ticket sales will take place on BlizzCon.com

Price, and Where did WWI go?
The price of $125 could affect interest and even anger a few fans. Since the number of tickets has been increased significantly with WWI and BlizzCon smashed together as one event, some fans might think they are greedy. On the other, very important, hand: You could earn back the price of the ticket by selling your goody bag on ebay afterwards, if history is reliable.

Other Ways of Following the Event
There won't be any free live stream video this year. DirecTV will take over both the cable viewing as well as a new pay-per-view online feed. It will be available to existing DiecTV customers for $39.95 USD, and the same goes for the online feeds. Since people were quite unhappy about DirecTV last year, we'll see how the reception will be this year. As Freelancer told me "better paid feeds than no feeds", which is true enough. We'll also get high quality editing etc, which is nice!

BLIZZCON®2009 TICKETS ON SALE MAY 16

Exclusive coverage of Blizzard Entertainment®’s gaming convention available through DIRECTV®satellite TV service and Internet stream

IRVINE, Calif. -- May 5, 2009 -- Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today announced that tickets for its fourth BlizzCon®gaming convention will go on sale May 16. Live coverage of the event will be available as a DIRECTV®Pay Per View event and, for the first time, as an Internet stream. BlizzCon is a celebration of the global player communities surrounding Blizzard Entertainment®’s Warcraft®, Diablo®, and StarCraft®game universes. The event will take place at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California on August 21 and 22.

“BlizzCon always offers us a great chance to meet players and celebrate our shared passion for gaming,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We look forward to delivering another entertaining and memorable experience to all attendees and to those joining us from home.”

In addition to serving as a gathering place for the different Blizzard Entertainment gaming communities, BlizzCon will offer an array of activities, including discussion panels, hands-on playtime with upcoming games, tournaments, contests, and more.

Tickets to the convention will be priced at $125 USD each and will be available for purchase from the official BlizzCon website at http://www.blizzcon.com beginning May 16. For those unable to purchase tickets on that date, a second block of tickets will go on sale May 30.

To streamline the ticket-purchase process this year, the company has made upgrades to the Blizzard Store, including a first-come, first-served queue system and a fixed time limit for completing purchases. Also, those interested in attending BlizzCon can simplify the purchase process by registering a Battle.net account at http://www.battle.net before ticket sales begin.

Due to its popularity last year, the DIRECTV® BlizzCon Pay Per View event will return in 2009, available to existing DIRECTV customers for $39.95 USD. The event will again deliver a minimum of eight hours of live HD coverage from the show floor on each day of the convention, including exclusive interviews, demos, and more. In addition, gamers around the world who are unable to attend BlizzCon will for the first time be able to purchase the Pay Per View event as an Internet stream, also priced at $39.95 USD (pricing may vary by region). DIRECTV customers who order the televised event will receive this Internet stream at no extra charge, allowing them to watch in the format of their choice. Anyone who orders the event will also receive this year’s BlizzCon-exclusive World of Warcraft® in-game item -- to be revealed at a later date.

In addition, in the weeks ahead DIRECTV will offer a BlizzCon promotion for those interested in signing up for the DIRECTV television service. New subscribers through this promotion will receive the DIRECTV BlizzCon Pay Per View event, the Internet stream, and the BlizzCon 2009 World of Warcraft in-game item for the price of becoming a new DIRECTV customer.

To keep pace with the continued growth of World of Warcraft as well as development on other Blizzard Entertainment games, the company is currently hiring for numerous open positions. More information on available career opportunities can be found at http://www.blizzard.com/jobs.

As BlizzCon draws closer, further details about the show, including ordering and programming information for the DIRECTV BlizzCon Pay Per View event and Internet stream, will be announced at http://www.blizzcon.com.

Hope I can get a ticket this year…looking forward to a D3 key. I like how they made amends from what happened last year by upgrading their ticket system and having two sale dates to relieve congestion. Also price increase isn’t that detrimental, the ticket is still worth every single cent smile

Its a partially cloaked ghost, quite possibly one of the Spectres... also it doesn't seem to be any hero we're familiar with.

No, the three icons are for the three franchises. It could be a spectre, but could also just be a regular Ghost. Don't read in too much in this pic.

At least having SC2 panels mean the game wont be released before blizzcon which is of course not a surprise.

They probably will copy what they did last year with the wow expansion and release sc2 shortly after blizzcon

That's not surprising. On the other hand, they would most likely have panels anyway, like for WoW, seeing as there is another 2 expansions to come. Your argument is completely moot :)

yea, even if beta starts now, the game is unlikely to be released around BlizzCon. SC2 beta is not only on SC2 multiplayer but also on the new BN2.0. It will take longer to test it. I say at least 4 months.

does this mean that people like me (european no-directv-customer) will have no chance to see a internet livestream? or can i pay 40$ and see the livestream without becoming a directv customer?

I would assume you can stream it on-line, as they mentioned, if you pay $40. We will also have whatever video coverage we're allowed btw.

Honestly I'm really pissed at Blizz right now. Since I'm not American, I can't access DirecTV, but even if I can via internet or something, I will need to pay a bunch of money to see a 2-day event. Why is that during WWI there was free internet stream, but during Blizzcons we only have this DirecTV stuff? When it's not in the US they do free stream for the Americans, but when it's at home, they don't give a shit about the rest of the world. I mean it's okay that they give you the chance to watch in HD via DirecTV, but they should think about those who can't access it/don't want to pay for it. Imho it's their own interest to have more people watching, because it's promotion for them, and they should be happy istead that they have so many fans who's interested.
