Eight New StarCraft 2 Screenshots

Posted 29th Jan 2009 09:20 AM by Leord

StarCraftWire.net has gotten their hands on eight new screenshots from StarCraft 2, showing off some of the impressive single player missions of what appears to be both Terran and Protoss campaigns, or test missions. They involve "regular" combat between the three races as well as "mass defence" against incoming Zerg swarms. One of the picture is very similar to a previously released one, but most of them are completely new. This whole single player experience that we will see with StarCraft 2 looks amazing. Check them out below:

Here we can see a pack of Mutalisks and Zerglings attacking a Terran outpost, guarded by Hellions, Marines and a Nighthawk. The shading effects here look particularly nice, it looks like the sun is considerably low to the top-right. A nice thing to note is that this is one of the first shots showing an Auto Turret shooting at air units.

Continue to the other 7 after the jump!

A Protoss air fleet attacks the Terrans, with the Carriers and Void Rays distracting the Missile Turrets to let the Warp Prisms drop in some Zealots.

The final stand for the Terrans against a swarm of Zerglings (and some Ultralisks!). Three Planetary Fortresses, four Thors and a heap of Siege Tanks and Bunkers hold off against the unstoppable force. Note, the two Nukes in the lower-left hand corner and the third nuke in the top right corner.

A sneak attack by the Protoss against the Terrans, using Warp In with a Warp Prism to create an instant army inside the base.

An army of Zealots, Stalkers and a single Colossus defend four warp gates against a Zerg invasion

Very similar to a screenshot in the last batch, here we see that the Protoss desperately trying to defend a Nexus with no minerals. The slight variation comes from showing the Colossi attack animation and the destruction of two Photon Cannons. Sadly, the bone-like Zerg creature climbing the wall has not moved from the previous shot, it's a doodad.

A small Protoss force consisting of Collosi and Stalkers is scouting or moving over Terran landscapes, and being attacked by Zerglings. It's very interesting to note the landscape, and the level of detail we will see in the game. Like many other pics in this batch, it's most likely a single player mission.

Protoss Collosi attacks a small Terran outpost defended by only two Siege Tanks in the dark of the night. The small Terran base seems to have just started their mining operations on the high yield minerals (the yellow minerals) there.

Blizzard also released 22 new StarCraft 2 unit model renders! Make sure you check them out.

Love the new shots smile, but all i can think of is the beta. Im constantly checking out your site to see if youve got some new beta info raspberry.

Btw. The last picture has 2 siege tanks defending, not 1. Its hard to see it because of the fire and stuff in the way.
And the third picture has a third nuke in the top right corner smile

And also, do you think we will see something like the terran farms and houses for the protoss aswell? Dont they have something similar, or do they just feed on whatever their skin takes in and live on the open plains?

My posts seems to have gone away o.O

Thanks, I edited the post.

Anyway, yeah, I agree. What do you think of the ones where they are travelling in Terran farming landscapes?

I’ve just noticed something potentially awesome, though it might seem dull on the first sight. Look at the last-but-one screenie in the terran farm.
Notice at the road - see how it bends? You cold never make that in any of the old editors. IF the road is part of the terrain (editor-wise, as in not doodad), then it would seem the new terrain editor will be somewhat more powerful…

Also,in the first one, the trees look suspiciously similar to those that were in WC3 campaign sceeen for night elves. Either coincidence, or maybe placeholders?

new screen shots are lookin good love the Planetary Fortresses. im not to sure about the nighthawk it looks like more of a covert ops ship not like something that would build and carry gun turrets, the nomad looks like it fits that role better. the collosi comein out of the water looks cool but so far i dont think the colossus has enouf firepower.

I agree, and I did actually like the old Nomad design. They could have made it "grittier", and used it. The Nighthawk is uber-cool, but should be shooting stuff, or having cool experimental energy beams.

wow, the environments are top notch. Actually everything in this game is looking amazing. My comp is not top of the line so this is probably the level of detail I will be playing at. I could not be more pleased.

It’s weird how these content additions always appear in a burst, instead of evenly spread out =)
