Robert Clotworthy Officially Returns as Jim Raynor

Posted 6th Aug 2009 11:10 AM by Medievaldragon

For those fans who haven’t yet heard, Robert Clotworthy was hired by Blizzard Entertainment to reprise his role as Jim Raynor in the upcoming Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty.  Personally, I am glad and grateful to Chris Metzen and the developers who amended their decision. Hope all fans agree.

Robert has kept in contact with me often for the past two or three years since our interview. There you can read how much Jim Raynor means to Robert. It’s not just another job—considering he has had awesome roles in Films, TV series and animated movies (imdb)—the Mar Saran hero means a lot to him, and he is grateful for all the support fans have given him over the years.  I started a petition online some time ago hoping Blizzard would change their mind.

Starcraftwire.net revived the petition later on, too.  I may never find out if our efforts had anything to do with his reestablishing as the voice of Jim Raynor, but overall I am deeply thankful to Blizzard for taking this decision.  The Single Player will mean so much more knowing this is our true Jim Raynor in soul and in the voice.

Nevertheless, I wish Glynnis Talken could return as Kerrigan. Both voice actors are the best. They gave very unique personalities and depth to the characters. This is what Robert said recently:

First off, I would like to confirm that I will be returning as the voice of Jim Raynor in the eagerly anticipated sequel to one of the most popular video games in history, Starcraft II.  Jim Raynor was voted one of the top ten gaming heroes of all time and I am honored to be returning.  My sincerest thanks go out to Chris Metzen and the entire team at Blizzard Entertainment as well as all the fans who have supported me.

I continue to teach Voice Over (VO) at Kalmenson and Kalmenson, the # 1 voice over casting office in Los Angeles.  Contact Donna Dubain at 818-377-3600 for class schedules and information.

All the best,

Robert

I got mixed feelings about the sc2 raynor. I do indeed like his appearence, his other redneck voice actor, and i’d love to play the game as him. The sc2 raynor is all around a good character in my book.

But the problem is: I can’t accept this character, nomatter how good he is, as Jim Raynor. this is obviously because the original raynor was bald, had a more modest face, and i just all around loved the original raynor in every way.

but hey, i shall withhold my judgements for when the game comes out.

Actually, he was bald because he shaved his head. Sorta like soldiers do in the military. But I get your point. As for "wasn't this already posted?", we did announce a few weeks ago that Robert was back as Jim Raynor, however, I don't think we posted a quote from Robert confirming it.

oh, thanks Medievaldragon. Everyone I talked to speculated Jim Raynor was balding, so he got a hair-implant for sc2. I hadn't actually considered that he shaved his hair perfectly regularly for the entire sc bw. Given that possibility, i guess i can accept the new jim raynor. I sure hope the redneck voice acter gets to play as a different character. I love how he said "to what do i owe the pleasure" he's so awesome.

Sure we already knew, but things in sc2 are always subject to change. Every update on Raynor's continued voice is good news.

Any news on the actors for Kerrigan and Zeratul?

I think the original Zeratul died. Didn't Metzen say that back on 2007? As for Glynnis, she told me a few months ago she wasn't hired, and to be honest, being mid-August things look grim.
