StarCraft II Beta Invite screenshot is fake

Posted 20th Mar 2009 09:40 PM by kuangtu

Today Karune replied to the claim that it's a hoax. It's primarily a response to the screenshot that a community member called "Blazur" had posted to prove his beta invite.

Blizzard Quote: (Source)
This is FAKE, and is Photoshopped. We will let you know when beta starts and when invites go out- still some waiting to do unfortunately.

Karune highlighted the word "fake". Many StarCraft fans got their hopes up by this hoax, and only illustrated how anticipated the StarCraft II beta actually is.

The Battle.net "opt-in" feature reported on is non the less still very real, and fans can still opt in to the StarCraft 2 beta. The only part of this hoax is about beta invites actually going out.

UPDATE!
IncGamers have quotes from more sources!

Leord, you were overwhelmed by excitement yesterday -> I know you wanted it to be true, but you didn’t have to post it. I made like 5 accounts hoping to get an invitation. Then I was hitting F5 for 1h XD

mad  :disappointed: =)

eh cmon dont blame it on Leord. Ive been browsing this website for over and year and a half and the team had never disapointed. Keep up the good work man. This was like a warm up for 1.04 ^^
i think everyone got exited alot about this and thats not bad smile

btw i hope that for the opt beta they choose from ppl that actually own any (at least 1) game of blizzard and dont pick up from ppl that make 1 milion accounts. That would be rly lame

Nah, Leord, dude, we're cool :D The whole thing made me feel better infact. I'm confused and disappointed because it's not real, that is the irony. SC Wire has recently become my homepage, so keep up the good work. :) I think everybody should have a fair chance of getting a key. I own 3 Blizz games, but still, it should be random and the factor that someone already owns a Blizz game doesn't make him a good or bad beta tester.

it doesnt but geeks no lifers etc would create as much accounts as possible which will raise their chance to get beta key even multiple keys. That wouldnt be fair now would it? ^^ Thats why i said its a good idea if they make it to be amongst ppl that own at least 1 blizzard title.
that way ull have experienced sc players but also new ppl to the game like the thousands that play wow for example and blizz could get feedback from both the experienced and the newbie people.

Well, so much for the moment of excitement (it was to much to be true: Battle.net 2.0, QA50 and this?).

However I still believe the beta announcement shouldn’t be far out. I give march 31 or april 1st a good chance!

Seeing how blizzcon beta keys can be used on the beta page since last night , i'd say we could expect at least a beta announcement.. somewhere next week ?

Site is FINALLY back up again!

I would have made a bigger news item about the hoax thing, but I was not available. The news of Kuangtu’s post reached me just as I left to celebrate my step moms birthday.

You can blame it on me however much you want, but we only guarantee to report ALL SC2 news, as well as giving you superb game analysis articles. wink

Also, no loss with multiple accounts, the opt-in is still active, and the beta keys will still be drawn from those accounts. Although, I am pretty sure it says somewhere in the EULA that you are not supposed to have multiples… raspberry

Anyway, I would imagine that you will have a LOT bigger chance to get beta keys either through StarcraftWire fansite program platinum membership, or through one of our friends (look at the little box with thumbs on the right nav bar).

Don’t worry, we’ll report ANY way to get a beta key, on ANY web page on the net. It will all be in the Beta Center.

@XtReMz:
You better keep your eyes peeled for our incoming beta contests then! =)

We have at LEAST 1 key to give away, since we already have that key available.

PIESOFTHENORTH:
Other fansites in the network have a “pal” program, with bronze, silver, gold and platinum membership. The point is for people to be able to support their favourite fansite, since tidings are quite rough, and have always been for fansites (difficulties getting good ads etc). As for the fansite program, and my mention of “platinum” it has nothing to do with that, but what level of fansite this is! This has nothing to do with money, and you will not be required to pay anything to enter any contest we’ll have with the beta!

To change settings like timezone, go here.

In that case, Where do I go for this "platinum" thing? Hmm... it says it's set to -6 central time, but why does the posts appear in 3pm? Maybe it's bugged...

Report it in the technical forum. I think Kalos can't do much about it, but then it's at least reported! =)

You don't go for "platinum" anywhere, besides visiting SCW, which IS a platinum site, in the fansite program! ;)

You mean here? Lol, sorry, let me explain: Since we are part of the fansite program, you can read in Karune's post that that is a way to get keys. Now, we will get a bunch of keys (hopefully MANY), to give to the community. We will give these away in future StarcraftWire Challenges (as seen on front page, contest closed, and winners of the posters come soon), and possibly other contests as well. On top of that we'll also report on any other site's contests, so you get as many chances as possible to win! =)
