Kalos’ Chronicles >> Wreaking Havok with Starcraft II

Behind a cabinet we are dusting off and taking out the second article from the WorldofWar.net tech guru Kalos. The article was made some time ago, but was never properly released until now, as I was away in Sweden.
As a continuation of StarCraft system requirements and technical specifications, we get to follow the first article in the series about the probable StarCraft 2 system requirements, and delve into the physics engine, namely Havok and the role it plays within the games of today.
In this article, Kalos talk about what the Havok engine is about and how Blizzard might use it to create some stunning interaction with the Starcraft II environment:
Havok Tools make up a portion of what will feature in the Blizzard engine that powers StarCraft II. What exactly Blizzard developers will do with the tool is completely up to them and some effects could be as yet unseen, but it is likely to have a focus upon the unit models and wrapping that emulation of real world physics to their movements, and it is likely to feature in the terrain and objects destructibles, that is the character models and the world environment.
We also get a glimpse of how several video cards support this engine and what we could expect in the future. You can read his full analysis here, and be sure to check out his other articles as part of the Kalos’ Chronicles.
The next article in the preview series of the technological aspects of StarCraft II will delve into the Multicore aspects of processors, and how they would relate to StarCraft II. So keep an eye out for that one, if you are interested in current PC technology, and what they might mean for SC2. So far, we have published the following tech previews by Kalos:
