We have seen Blizzard Entertainment and some of their high profile employees being featured on various top lists. This time they are featured on Gamepro’s The 8 Most Powerful Video Game Studios which they claim to have based on “multiple hits, present impact, and cash money”:
Blizzard Entertainment
Founded: 1991 (as Silicon & Synapse)
Headquarters: Irvine, CaliforniaThere must be something in the water in Irvine. Either that or some hidden crack-cocaine between lines of Blizzard game code, because the hard-to-put-down studio is notorious for making some of the most addicting games of all time, namely Diablo, Starcraft, and the grandaddy of them all, World of Warcraft. How else would you convince 10 million subscribing fiends to pay $15 per month? This is one developer everyone wants to be.
I assume the order of that list is from lowest to highest? Some of the first companies I wouldn’t really put above ones like Valve and the like. I certainly wouldn’t consider Rockstar games to be on par with someone like Nintendo or Blizzard, but that’s probably the old gamer in me talking. ![]()
Then again, as with any list of the “best of xx category” it’ll never match everyones expectations.
Still, it’s an interesting list and further evidence that Blizzard’s doing something right (searches for a thumbs up smily but no luck!)
