Starcraft Online

Quoted as 'China's leading online game operator', Netease is reported to be considering licensing agreements with foreign online game developers.

Of particular interest is the paragraph:

Quote:
Caijing Magazine reported that the first foreign online game to be operated by Netease, which used to rely on independent R&D, will be Starcraft Online, developed by US-based Blizzard, quoting an industry insider as saying.
The CEO of Netease has not confirmed this.

Several weeks ago there were some speculation on the new project/s that Blizzard's has in the pipeline, maybe this is one of them. Alternatively, this could simply be an elegant name for the new version of Battle.net that will come with Starcraft II.

Or it could be something else entirely.

Seems like something big is going on. This could possibly make Blizzard more popular than it already is in the Asian region.

Seems I might have been a little too quick on that trigger (wishful thinking perhaps?). Another article posted not long ago may have again shot down the theory behind Starcraft Online.

Quote:
US-based game developer Blizzard has not put forward any plan to develop Starcraft Online.

...

A source with Blizzard China was also quoted as saying that the company now has no plan of developing games with other partners.

In all honesty, I had some doubts that it was a Starcraft spin-off since it could ultimately clash with the eventual release of Starcraft II.

This isn't the first time those two keywords have surfaced in the media though - and probably won't be the last. CVG went so far as to proclaim last year's announcement to be the MMO variant.

Quote:
Well placed US sources have revealed to us that the StarCraft MMO will be unveiled at an upcoming Blizzard event on May 19 in South Korea - the epicentre of the sci-fi RTS series' rabid fandom.
This, in-fact, turned out to be Starcraft II.
