Terran infantry

Terran infantry consists mostly of resocialized individuals who have committed crimes in the past and been sentenced to join the Marine corps for life. The Terran infantry consists of:

• Marines
• Firebats (discontinued)
• Medics (moved to Medivac Dropships)
• Marauders (started after Brood War)
• Reapers (mercenaries, started after Brood War)
• Ghosts

The SCV, while technically an "infantry unit", is not part of the Terran infantry as such, and are generally considered working civilians.

Joining the Infantry

Anyone who would like to see some real-life action is more than welcome to join the Dominion standing forces, or seek out rogue groups such as Raynor's Raiders, to make killing things into a career for life.

Neural Resocialization

While many people volunteer to join the army, most soldiers do not enlist of their own free will. The Terran infantry mainly consists of resocialized criminals. The army has also on occasion used conscript soldiers taken from their ordinary lives, resocialized, and put in an armored suit, believing they signed up themselves. This is not a fact that is known to the general public.

The army also uses Ghosts that have received implanted Neural Inhibitors in order to make them follow orders without discretion. The main difference between the "regular" infantry (like Marines) and Ghosts is that anyone with a psychic ability can be subject to be entered into the Ghost Academy regardless of social status, while the only people getting resoc are generally criminals with no psychic ability.
