The Medivac Dropship is the primary transportation unit in the Terran fleet, and has the added role of healing friendly biological units.
[edit] StarCraft II Unit
Similar to the Dropship, the Medivac Dropship's primary purpose is to transport units from one location to another. To do this, the Medivac has the limited capacity of 8 slots with each Terran units taking 1, 2 or 4 slots accordingly. Any combination of units can be loaded as long as they do not equal more then the 8 count limit. The breakdown of each unit is as follows:
- SCV - 1 slot, max 8 SCVs
- Marine - 1 slot, max 8 Marines
- Marauder - 2 slots, max 4 Marauders
- Ghost - 2 slots, max 4 Ghosts
- Reaper - ?? slots, max ?? Reapers
- Jackal - 2 slots, max 4 Jackals
- Siege Tank - 4 slots, max 2 Siege Tanks
- Thor - ?? slots, max ?? Thors
- Viking - ?? slots, max ?? Vikings
- Cobra - ?? slots, max ?? Cobras
- Firebat - ?? slots, max ?? Firebats
- Medic - ?? slots, max ?? Medics
Notes: It is unclear yet if the Viking will be transportable in Assault Mode. The Cobra, Firebat and Medic have been removed from the open multiplayer aspect of the game.
The Medivac Dropship will also be capable of healing friendly biological units. The speed at which the Medivac heals will change frequently during the development process, but it has been noted to currently be faster then the Medic's heal in Brood War.
If a Medivac Dropship is carrying units and becomes corrupted by a Zerg Corruptor, then all units that are being carried will be destroyed.

[edit] Development
In early March '08 the Medivac Dropship has replaced both the Dropship and Medic for the Terrans, and will now fulfill both roles of transportation and the Combat Physician.
[edit] Trivia
- It was revealed as part of the Q&A Batch 34 that the Medivac Dropship may deploy medical drones when healing friendly biological units.
- The switch away from the Medic to the Medivac Dropship was to increase the mobility of the Terran healer to be more suitable with the agile Reapers. During the testing stage, the developers has found that players had preferred the standard Marine and Medic combo because the original Medics were unable to keep up with the new Reapers.
- There were also concerns that the Medic would be hard to kill, due to their relatively small size. The Medivac Dropship is aimed at fixing this by providing a larger unit for the enemy to target.
