Sarah Kerrigan is a former Terran Ghost who was betrayed by Arcturus Mengsk and left to the Zerg. Prior to her betrayal, she had begun to fall for the Mar Sara marshal Jim Raynor. The two had their share of problems when he thought about how she'd look without her Ghost uniform on, not knowing she was a telepath. She read his mind and everything after that is history. After her betrayal, the Zerg spared her life and transported her to their home world Char to begin the infestation process. It was there that she sent out a telepathic cry for help that triggered a massive series of events. Jim Raynor, Tassadar, General Duke and Zeratul all arrived on Char to investigate. By the time Raynor found her in the caverns beneath the surface, she had just begun to emerge from her 'cocoon'. She awoke claiming the title of the 'Queen of Blades' and spoke proudly about her new found Zerg form and powers. She allowed Raynor to escape but continually taunted him with dreams of how things could have been between them if she had not been betrayed by Mengsk. It was also on Char that Tassadar befriend both Jim Raynor and Zeratul. Zeratul tought Tassadar the ways of 'The Void'; the true birthright of the Protoss. Kerrigan pursued them all across Char only to be defeated. Zasz, a Zerg Cerebrate, was eliminated by Zeratul, while an unnamed Cerebrate was eliminated by Tassadar as part of his Dark Templar training.
The events on Char lead to the attack of the Protoss homeworld of Aiur and later the demise of all Zerg Cerebrates as well as its Overmind. Kerrigan took control as head of the Zerg and thus began the Brood War.
It was rumored that she might have been in love with Jim Raynor at some point.
