The Swarm Guardians are based on the breed of Guardians, and have spent the years between the Brood War and present day to evolve into an even more powerful air-based artillery unit. The new Swarm Guardian can also hatch Broodlings with its shots, and is even more of a threat to the enemies of the Swarm.

StarCraft II Unit

The new Broodling spawn of the Swarm Guardian introduces an additional aspect of the Zerg, and makes the unit both work as a nuisance to enemies as well as a heavy damage dealer.

Development

Swarm Guardian Bootleg Video shot.
Since StarCraft I, the Swarm Guardian has not only changes the name from Guardian, but also changed appearance. The front of the creature looks similar in StarCraft II, but it has also increased in bulk, and received a sort of waving tail behind it. The picture to the left is the only picture that is available of the Swarm Guardian. It is a bootleg video filmed at the Korean Zerg Reveal Press Tour. The yellow flare on the picture to the left is not part of the Swarm Guardian's animation sequence, it is part of something else. The Video quality is very poor, so it is hard to see. Recently, this unit has been pulled from the game and replaced with a new unit called, the Brood Lord.
