Structure

I think it might be a little easier if we divide the map-making section into 3 parts. One for map-making in SC, one for map-making in WC3, and one for map-making in SC2. While it is possible that SC2 and WC3 will overlap quite a bit, it is also just as likely that they will be as different from each other as the SC editor is from the WC3 editor. And, while I think there will obviously be some commonalities, it is difficult to design for what might or might not exist in SC2 and I find it very difficult to make definitive statements when I constantly have to parse which parts of my statements apply to SC vs. WC3.

My suggestion is that we just have three sub-sections that are centralized from the "map-making" section and that these each have their own main page and navigation menu and such, otherwise it is going to just get confusing. People who are coming to read about SC editing probably don't care about the parts that also occur in WC3 editing, so it seems odd to me (and probably baffling to the reader) to keep the information bundled together. My plan was to have "Mapmaking" to be an article specifically about the general stuff about mapmaking, and some navigation, and then starting on "Mapmaking (StarCraft)", "Mapmaking (WarCraft III)" and "Mapmaking (StarCraft II)". I am open for suggestions on other titles, of course, but that is the "standard" disambiguation style of wikipedia. Could also be "Mapmaking for StarCraft" or the like. --Leord 18:19, 28 July 2008 (CEST)
Oh, I agree that is how it should be, I just think the way we have things structured at the moment (with the 'seven divisions') jumps right in to stuff that would probably be better suited for those subdivisions. I'm kind of stumped on what more could be added to a general mapmaking section that isn't sort of specific to a particular game (maybe some general terminology like alpha & beta stages, debugging, playtesting, and then conceptualization/designing good maps discussions or something?). Anyhow, my point was that we should probably bust out the subdivisions sooner rather than later. CHUNK 19:29, 28 July 2008 (CEST)

Mapmaking / Map-making

What would you prefer? Same question as told in the forums. --Leord 18:19, 28 July 2008 (CEST)

I have always gone with the more formal 'map-making', mainly for aesthetics. Technically, I think it is okay to use either (mapmaking is a 'real' word). Seeing as how it is already showing as 'mapmaking' throughout the site, I'll conform. Old habits die hard, I guess. CHUNK 19:18, 28 July 2008 (CEST)
