I think this is better off as "Minimum Recommended Number of Players" to indicate that this is the minimum number recommended for the map to retain its intended character. A suggested player number would seem to indicate to me that the map is best played with that number of players - for example an AoS map might have a minimum recommended number of 8 (4v4), but might be just as playable at 5v5. A suggested number of 8 would indicate that 8 is better than 10, when it is not. -- NobleHelium 12:43, 26 August 2008 (CEST)
- Suggested Players is what the field is called in WC3 maps, and it allows you to put multiple values, for example: "4v4 or 5v5", etc. Suggested number of players is meant to be exactly that - how many players the author suggests you play with. That often differs (and sometimes substantially) from a minimum recommended number. I'm not opposed to also including the field you suggested, but it isn't the same thing as what I suggested and I still think whatever the recommended minimum number is, it shouldn't replace the suggested number of players, because, like maximum player number, it would be an integer not a range of values. -- CHUNK 21:45, 26 August 2008 (CEST)
- Ah, I didn't realize you meant for Suggested Players to be a range of values. Are you sure it's a good idea to have a field in a form that could lead to a freeform value possibly given as "2v2 or 3v3 or 4v4 or 5v5"? -- NobleHelium 11:35, 27 August 2008 (CEST)
- In my original post, on the forums, it was clearer that the intention was that the site would fill these fields in based on the map data fields that already existed (automatically). Because the database upgrade may also extend to WC3 maps, my intention was to present a list of fields that were already in use by Blizzard. In other words, whether I think it is a good idea or not is not really very relevant - if the data fields exist and can be extracted directly when the map is uploaded, they should be. For SC2, we obviously don't know what those metadata fields will be yet, but whatever fields are available should be included and extracted directly from the map. For the record, I also think if you want to discuss things, it should be discussed in that forum thread - where everyone might see it and contribute, rather than here, which (I think) is supposed to be a compilation of those discussions. -- CHUNK 21:33, 27 August 2008 (CEST)
