The Valkyrie Frigates are a powerful addition to the UED's Expeditionary Fleet. The Valkyries' H.A.L.O. missiles are capable of reducing most conventional star fighters and airborne structures to rubble. The missiles are fired in volleys of eight, and impact within a large area of effect. The dispersal radius of its targeting system is designed to achieve maximum damage to not only its intended target, but also adjacent targets within the blast area. Valkyries are heavily armored, and can take substantial punishment from enemy fire before they suffer any core system failures. (1)

Game Unit

Several Valkyries hunting Overlords in StarCraft I.
The Valkyrie serves as the an anti-air support unit to the Terran air fleet and has a devastating salvo of halo rockets. The Valkyrie fires 8 missiles with each attack and deal splash damage in a 3x3 matrix around the center target, allowing them to destroy multiple targets quickly.

With their speed and damage spread, Valkyries make excellent Overlord and transport hunters capable of chasing down and quickly destroying small groups of defenseless air units. Their speed also allows them to perform hit and run tactics as well as escort friendly air units across the map.

Valkyries unfortunately have no ground attack and are susceptible to anti-air defenses such as the Missile Turret and Spore Colony.

Trivia

The name Valkyrie is derived from the Valkyrie in Norse Mythology, whose role was to choose those who died bravely in battle and bring them to Valhalla.

The Valkyrie pilot speaks with a German accent and sometimes uses German words (Achtung!)
