Zerg Strategies
From The StarCraft 2 Wiki
From massing to stealth, the Zerg have it all. Look below for a strategy that best suits your play style for the Zerg, with the list ranging from basic to complex strategies.
- Zerg vs. Terran (as of Blizzcon 2008)
At the start of the game, terran will not likely build many marines (which do not have medivac support during early game) because in starcarft 2, zerglings > marines. Therefore, it is safe to 12-hatch. If your scouting reveals marines, you have time to build lings from your 2 hatcheries to defend sucessfully.
More likely, terran will avoid conflict early and go for 2-factory helions (imagine vulture/firebat hybrid). Helions are deadly and will walk over any amount of zerglings, as well as equal numbers of hydras if they do a surround/flank attack. Helions can also run to your drone line and cripple your economy. Generally, helions will give terran very good map control, and it will be followed up with tanks to get rid of your static defense.
To counter this, it is best to get a few spine crawlers for the helion phase (don't go crazy, as you can expect tanks). Use your chokepoint to stall with spine crawlers, zerglings, hydralisks, and infestors.
You should be going for mutalisk so you can regain map control enough to expand again. Note that terran turrets are much stronger in starcraft 2, so it is not likely you will run over a terran base once you get mutalisks.
Gradually push out with a the mix of units you have and remember that flanking the terran is very important. Keep up the macro; this should let you build up enough of an economic advatange and army that you will be able to stop terran expansions and eventually overwhelm him.
